This Boomerang is not coming back

This Boomerang’s not coming back

Ron Beezley, comedian, joker, good natured, hard working, practical and dedicated, has left Desert Channels Queensland. After 3 years of facilitating projects, identifying weeds, talking to landholders, running workshops, driving the long hours to promote the work of DCQ and support Landcare groups, Ron has moved back into training and mentoring.

Being able to talk the talk and walk the walk is the cornerstone of connecting with landholders and Ron did it with ease. Having spent many years working on properties in the Gulf and elsewhere gave Ron a positive base from which to build relationships in the community. “I reckon graziers were more than happy to talk with someone who spoke the lingo, understood where they were coming from, supported them and helped them with their concerns,” Ron said.

“Gaining respect from co-workers, landholders, government agencies and community groups has been the highlight of my time at DCQ – if you don’t count the tricks and jokes I used to play on the unsuspecting in the office.”

Ron’s practical knowledge, varied skill base, good nature and, more importantly, his humour has been a huge asset to DCQ, and will be sorely missed. “Humour breaks down barriers,” he said. “It made the work with DCQ and landholders more enjoyable and rewarding.”

Understanding the issues and concerns of the community, and being able to connect on a personal level have been cornerstone of DCQ’s success and Ron Beezley has been integral to this. He is only going as far as the Australian Agricultural College Corporation in Longreach, as Instructor and Mentor for full time Indigenous students.

DCQ wishes Ron all the best in his new position, and thanks him for his valuable contribution to the work of DCQ with the community of the Desert Channels region. We’ll miss you, mate.
