DCQ meets RLOs in Region’s Far South

Representatives from Desert Channels Group (DCG), Parks and Wildlife and other government agencies met with Shire Rural Lands Officers from the Barcoo, Diamantina, Longreach, Blackall/Tambo, Winton and Bulloo shires in Windorah, south-west of Longreach, last week.

Updates on current and upcoming projects, sharing issues, concerns, ideas and putting names to faces were on the agenda for the two day event. Topics of great interest were the new Bio Security Act, which involves the Stock Route Act, information on bore testing as well as how the Great Artesian Basin works.  Equally informative was the Town Common walk, learning how to identify and classify weeds and other plants.

DCG’s Peter Spence (NRM Facilitator) and Leigh Deutscher (NRM Project Support Officer) were pleased to attend.

“The Rural Lands Officers in our region do a great job.  These guys do the ground work and have their fingers on the pulse.  It’s imperative that DCG stays in close contact with this group as collectively there is so much knowledge. I have a high regard for this team and am looking forward to working more closely with them in the future,” said Peter.

Next meeting is March 2012 in Charleville.
