EMPOWERING RURAL WOMEN
Empowering rural women is the focus of a workshop that is being held at the Tambo Town Hall. Desert Channels Queensland (DCQ) will host the two day workshop specifically designed for rural and remote women on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th of April.
DCQ Industry Liaison Officer Colleen James, who is organising the workshop said, “We want to give rural women the opportunity to build networks and access information and training that is often difficult to receive in remote areas.”
“Over the two days, we will focus on issues faced by rural women with topics including; communication, succession planning, rural business analysis, biodiversity, grant writing and funding opportunities, arts, mental and physical health and well being.”
These workshops have been held in other remote areas including Eromanga, Boulia, Winton and Longreach with great support from local women.
“Well worthwhile making the time to attend, the course has a large number of relevant topics and issues that women living in rural and isolated areas face on a regular basis with lots of contacts for further information provided”, said an attendee from the Eromanga workshop.
Another attendee stated that the workshop was fabulous, very informative on a wide range of topics, each in their own way interesting even though you may not have found them all relevant when you initially thought of attending.
By delivering Naturally Resourceful women's workshops, DCQ aims to provide local women with the networks and tools to build on their resourceful nature, enhance their involvement in communities and develop their skills, knowledge and understanding about natural resource management and personal development.
The workshop is an initiative of the Desert Channels Landholder Support Service Project and is funded by the Queensland Government’s Blueprint for the Bush Program.
