EROMANGA TO HOST 2 DAY WOMEN’S WORKSHOP
Rural and regional women will have the opportunity to learn about a broad range of topics and share their knowledge when Desert Channels Queensland (DCQ) hosts the two day Naturally Resourceful Women’s Workshop at the Eromanga Hall on 15 and 16 September.
“We want to give rural women the opportunity to build networks and have access to information and training that is often difficult to receive in far western Queensland,” said DCQ’s Industry Liaison Officer Colleen James, who is organising the workshop. “We have been running the Naturally Resourceful Women’s Workshops across the DCQ region with a fantastic response from women in the Longreach, Winton and Boulia areas.”
Lisa Kelly who came in from Headingly Station for the Boulia Naturally Resourceful Workshop in June said, “It is good to be up-to-date on what is out there for the rural community – learning wise and funding wise. The course had a very friendly comfortable atmosphere.”
By delivering Naturally Resourceful women's workshops DCQ aims to provide local women with the networks and tools to build on their resourceful nature, enhance their involvement in communities and enhance their skills, knowledge and understanding about natural resource management and property planning.
Ms James said that although isolation is a huge barrier for people in remote areas, after speaking with local women we have come up with a program that best suits the needs of the area, considering the distances that people have to travel to attend and the time that people can invest.
“Over the two days we will cover topics that include: personality types and communication, succession planning, financial planning, biodiversity, health and wellbeing, grant writing and much more.”
This workshop is an initiative of the Landholder Support Service Project and is funded by the Queensland Government’s Blueprint for the Bush Program. DCQ is working in collaboration with South West NRM in an effort to give as many women in the region an opportunity to attend the workshop.
