Great results for DCQ and more to come

Desert Channels Queensland (DCQ) Landholder Support Service project (LSSP) is heading into its third and final year.  During the past year, 450 attendees have supported LSSP events representing 178 properties, which equates to over six million hectares of land managed in the Desert Channels region.

The great response from land managers is attributed to the community consultation and issues addressed through the training and information days.  Partnerships have been crucial in providing additional resources and providing this much needed service.

Through the variety of topics and services covered by LSSP, DCQ have been able to engage a broad base of community members.  A series of women’s workshops in remote areas have also proven to be successful in bringing services that are not readily available to those areas.

The LSSP is in the process of planning new events for the coming year.  With the fantastic season producing a huge fuel load, fire management is high on the agenda.  The LSSP will be conducting fire management and erosion control grader workshops and more. The LSSP is funded through DCQ by the Queensland Government’s Blueprint for the Bush initiative.
