Naturally Resourceful in Boulia

Ladies from across western Queensland braved the cold to attend Desert Channels Queensland's (DCQ) Naturally Resourceful Women's Workshop at Boulia from 16 to 17 June.Workshop participants

DCQ hopes that delivering Naturally Resourceful Women's workshops will help local women build on their resourceful nature, enhance their involvement in communities and build their skills, knowledge and understanding about natural resource management and property planning.

The course is designed to encourage participants to take responsibility and action for improved management of the environment, improve understanding about the links between good natural resource management practices and social and economic viability, and develop self-confidence and to be more vocal advocates for continued learning within their communities. It also provides a pathway for women to take leadership responsibilities within the natural resource management field, as well as within social, producer and political groups and committees.

The first day in Boulia saw the group aquiring new skills in grant writing with DCQ's Sue Gardiner and gross margins with Peter Whip, before taking part in the DiSC personailty profiling with Julia Telford that led into succession planning with Peter Whip. Dinner at the Australian Hotel on the first night was accompanied by a biodiversity presentation with Steve Wilson.

Participants not only had the opportunity to workout their minds with topics such as grant writing and financial planning, there was also a chance to workout their bodies at a fitness session in the morning with Alun Hoggett leading a 'body balance' class.
