Basin Bullet 2007-10

As I See It

The cover of the Basin Bullet October 2007

Australian Cricket is at the pinnacle of the sport: they’ve won everything worth winning (almost), and they continue to blaze a trail where no team has gone before.

Granted, they are a collection of very talented individuals, but other national teams have, arguably, as much talent yet perform below the lofty standards of the Baggy Greens. Why the disparity? What gives them the edge? How do they consistently out-perform comparable talent?

The answer is two, four-letter words rolled into one: team and work. And it’s not just the eleven who take the field, it’s the back-up players, the coaches, physios, trainers, managers, and various other support staff. It’s all about teams within teams ... and partnerships. Successful organisations, like DCQ, work on the same principle, and so do thriving, vibrant communities. Talent is sought out, tapped, and shared. Everyone has a role to play and everyone is taken along for the ride.

And the most recent ride that we’ve been taken on, as a team, as an organisation, and as a community, has been the Iningai Keeping Place project and the associated ‘Bringing them home’ ceremony. It has been an exemplar ... different sectors of the community working in partnership, as a team, and coming together in respect, understanding and reconciliation. ... people ... walking this land together.
