Leigh grew up in Sunbury, Victoria and has recently completed a Batchelor of Science in Ecology and Sustainability follwed by Honours in Applied Biology. Recently moving to Longreach, Leigh is loving the lifestyle and the unique flora and fauna of the region. In his spare time he is a keen photographer focussing on Australian wildlife, particularily reptiles. He also enjoys getting outdoors as well as the odd game of Ultimate Frisbee.
Christie is locally born and raised and grew up in a busy home environment, so she feels right at home at DCQ. After studying Cert III in Business Administration and working her way from Receptionist to Contracts Officer, Christie had a year in Toowoomba working with The Comadamine Alliance before returing to DCQ in February 2011 as Contracts Officer. Christie is an active sports person and is a keen rugby and touch player.
Michael Castrisos has come to DC Solutions with a strong background in project management, business and fund-raising, and takes on the role of Business Development Officer. Michael will be also be doing work for the Desert Channels Foundation. He has worked in education but is glad to be out of the classroom and into the business world. He loves his rugby union, socialising and raising funds for disadvantaged kids.
Peter Spence joined the team in late 2010 to bolster our pest management capacity. Peter is a child of the region, having grown up near Muttaburra and educated in Longreach and Yeppoon. He spent 26 years on the land before 6 years with local government, half as Rural Lands Officer and half as Construction Supervisor. Peter loves the bush (especially the desert country), 60s and 70s music and rugby union.
Mark was born and raised in the Lake Eyre Basin, and worked on the land for 25 years. He combines experience in the museum and trourism industry, communications, and writing with his passion for the region. Mark enjoys nothing more than relaxing in the bush with his wife and two boys.
As a Longreach local, Shelleagh has spent most of her life in the west. After completing a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting she has spent the last 11 years as a public accountant, working predominately with graziers and other primary producers completing financial requirements. Shelleagh likes the laid back, fun filled lifestyle that Longreach has to offer and loves nothing more than a good laugh and spending time with family and friends.
After completing a Certificate II in Business Administration in her final year of school, Brittany started with DCG in 2007 as Administration Officer. Brittany has since worked in finance, project management and is now the Office Manager and PA to the CEO. Brittany was born in New Zealand and grew up in Australia and, while she loves the outback lifestyle, still calls New Zealand home... and supports the All Blacks
Jeff, although from New Zealand, is the great-great-grandson of notorious bushranger Thunderbolt, and Mary Bugg his aboriginal accomplice. He is a prize-winning photographer, expert chef, and accomplished musician and singer. He enjoys working in the community, swimming, house renovating and spending time with his wife and three children.
Roelie, a trained teacher specialising in the Montessori method, is Brisbane born but has worked throughout Queensland and overseas. She has a great love of Australian folk songs and poems, a passion for travelling, and a fascination for the outback in general but the Desert Channels region in particular.
